Ct. Filip teaches piano through practical keyboard harmony placing emphasis on harmonisation, transposition and improvisation; basically how to understand and use the musical language with piano and how to apply this knowledge to learning musical pieces as well as in own compositions. If you are a beginner, you will start with intensive and methodical classes. In these classes, you will first learn to navigate the keyboard and you will learn to read music written on the grand staff. you will then learn about about the different types of chords, how they are played, and recognised on piano, in the score and by ear. You will learn about tonalities and how they affect the way one makes melodies, the way chords are used, and the way the music feels in general. All the while, you will learn the correct techniques of body posture, arm and hand coordination. Ct. Filip also has number of advanced students, including other music teachers. His methodical approach to piano and composition avoids the usual way of: “let’s learn a piece every few weeks and hope that you will learn something”. Yet this method is not new. It has been used by great piano teachers for over a century. Ct. Filip has successfully implemented it at University level, teaching students to play the piano (at a level that they could lead and accompany choir) in just two year, which is a very short time indeed. Ct. Filip is always happy to accommodate an enthusiastic and dedicated individual.
