Congratulations, I believe you were named 2015 PGA Club Professional for the KZN/Free State and Northern Cape Region.
I’d like to do an article, if you could please get back to me sometime today.
Firstly, how do you feel about winning the award?
I feel extremely honoured and privileged to receive such a prestigious award. I’m proud to be a South African PGA member.
How did you win/what was the criteria?
I was nominated by my peers and it then went into a voting procedure on all the nominated candidates.
When did you start playing golf and what are some of your career highlights?
I started playing golf when I was 13 years old and once the golfing bug bit I never looked back. I joined the PGA of South Africa in August 2000 and qualified in 2004.
2012/13 Won the Southern/Eastern Cape region “PGA Professional of the year award”
2012/13 Nominated amongst 5 candidates for “PGA Professional of the year award” nationally.
2012 A member of the PGA regional committee Southern/Eastern Cape region.
2014 Member of the PGA regional committee.
2014 Hosting the flagship event for ladies golf – SA Women’s Open as part of the Ladies European Tour.
2015 Became a Director of the Mark McNulty Junior Foundation.
2015 Won the KZN/Free State and Northern Cape region “PGA Professional of the year award”
What do you put your success down to?
I had the privilege to do my apprenticeship at Sparrebosch/Pezula under one of the best Golf Directors in the country Jeff Clause (South Africa’s PGA Professional of the year 1995,2003 & 2014 ) he taught me everything I needed to know and laid me a solid foundation. This grew my passion for the industry and the love I have to work with people. I then went on to work at Simola Country Club Hotel & Spa as their Head professional, this was an amazing learning experience where I was surrounded by great businessmen who taught me how to handle the industry as a business. 5 years later I matured enough to be appointed as General Manager of Pezula for 2 years where I was exposed to different challenges that shaped into the person I am today.
I definitely put my success down to my staff and supporting golf committee, I strongly believe a club manager is only as good as his committee allows him to be and at San Lameer, it doesn’t get any better.
When did you join San Lameer and how have you enjoyed your time at the club?
I joined San Lameer in May 2013 and I must say it has been very rewarding. We have made a lot of improvements to the course and the facilities in the last two years and being part of the changes has been exciting and wonderful to see.
